Luxury Organic Lipstick Review (Kjaer Weis)

I recently acquired a cosmetic item from Kjaer Weiss, an organic and sustainable luxury makeup brand created by Kirsten Kjaer Weis.  A makeup artist originally from Denmark she created a full line of organic and environmentally friendly cosmetics.  Basically all the good, none of the bad in brilliantly designed & aesthetically pleasing packaging.  I purchased the lipstick in the shade “Honor”. 

KW has a total of 8 lipstick shades and Honor was the one I chose as it appeared to be the most natural light pink choice they had.  All products are produced in Italy & totally organic.  Her website states they contain “NO artificial ingredients, such as petroleum, parabens, artificial fragrance, petrochemical emulsifiers NOT tested on animals & Gluten FREE”

For a fully organic product, they have quite a long shelf life. 30 months before being opened & 12 months after being opened.  They state on their website that the lipstick is “activated by the warmth of your lips and can be applied directly from the tube.”  The lipstick retails at a staggering $56 a tube!  The case is forever though and after that initial sticker shock all you need to do is purchase the refill cartridge for $36.  Still a hefty lipstick price, but the refill packaging is recyclable & that’s the point.

Please see the video for my full review and to see how the refill system works.  Here are a few of my first impressions.  The first one that I received was extremely dry.  It did not warm up on my lips as the website claims rather it roughly dragged across my lips leaving them dry and flaky.  I was very impressed by the design and packaging. The tube itself is substantial in weight and beautifully designed giving a luxurious high-end feel.  The shade “honor”  is fantastic.  I have at last found the best color for me!  There is zero smell which is wonderful as I am extremely sensitive to scents in a lipstick.  I contacted the company that I purchased from “Credo Beauty” & they took the batch number and sent me a refill from a different batch.  The refill was a much creamier texture. 

Several weeks in I still think this is the best lipstick shade I’ve ever owned.  The refill system is brilliant, though I am on the fence about the texture of the lipstick. It is odd, to say the least.  It seems to dry out rather quickly and adjusts with the weather.  The lipstick itself tends to sometimes look a little grainy or bumpy.  I have never seen that happen with any other lipstick.  I find that pressing the lipstick on sometimes gives a smoother application than dragging it across.  Here is a list of pros & cons.
